My GPU is no where near as powerfull as yours but it is still great for playing movies to a Samsung 51' Plasma 1080p TV.
I use Cyberlink PowerDVD15 Ultra to play Blu-ray movies (6 Speaker Setting with No Effect) as again the SB1350 takes care of the sound. The Creative Speakers (Not The SPDIF) since installation have always been my Default Sound setting. I use the Windows Sound Settings to Disable my GPU's sound. I then use the Onkyo's Dolby Digital EX to expand the 5.1 signal from the Creative Recon to the extra rear speakers or 7.1 channels. Even though the Creative Recon is only 5.1 I use it as it offers so much more sound control. I also have an ASUS HD 7750 1GB GPU that offers 7.1 sound via the DVI or HDMI output. Hi, I have set-up similar to yours I run a Sound Blaster Recon 3D SB1350 running to an Onkyo 1030watt 7.1. Unfortunately I don't have a state I can restore to prior to the upgrades. I've uninstalled both the application and the driver, then reinstalled both (with restarts) and reseated the physical sound card, but no changes. SBZ still shows in the BIOS, and is shown in Windows Device Manager (as Sound Blaster Audio Controller), but no longer shows up in my Windows Sound panel, and Sound Blaster Z Series Control Panel won't open (see image attached). Had an internet outage in my area from Friday 16/6/17 until earlier today (18/6/17), but before this Windows did some updates which caused my SBZ to stop working, but my SBR3D still works brilliantly. Rolled back to Pre-Creator, waited for a fix from nVidia and then upgraded again and it all worked fine.

After doing the creator update my GPU wouldn't work (it basically treated my (only) screen as a second monitor after logging in. I'm having a similar but also totally different issue: MSI GD65 MoBo with nVidia GTX 1080, Sound Blaster Z, and Sound Blaster Recon3D Wireless headphones.
So, if Microsoft is paying any attention, something in the area of sound, as certified by store registration testing, makes a difference. Windows store apps are required to go through a certification and apparently that is a factor in whether the creators update works or not. As for the other comment, we are narrowing in on an interesting fact. It is basic windows and part of the operating system. There is no excuse why test, in the sounds panel, should not be an accurate test of the system.
